Essex head coach Paul Grayson insists he will still field his best available side in the Clydesdale Bank 40 clash with Leicestershire, even though the Eagles can no longer qualify from Group A.

Grayson’s men have won just two of their eight 40-over games this summer, but performed strongly with the bat this week in their LV= County Championship match against tomorrow’s opponents.

“We have to be respectful to the competition so, although we can't qualify, we will play our best available side,” Grayson said.

“It is also a good opportunity for us to see the likes of (Maurice) Chambers and (Tom) Westley to see where they are at in one-day cricket.

Tom Westley will get another chance to impress Essex head coach Paul Grayson in Sunday's Clydesdale Bank 40 clash with Leicestershire

"Winning breeds confidence and the team responded well against Leicestershire in the four-day competition after the disappointing defeats to Hampshire in the LV= County Championship and Somerset in the Friends Life t20.”

Leicestershire are bottom of Group A, level on points with Essex.

Middlesex will attempt to move to the top of Group A when they welcome fifth-placed Worcestershire to Uxbridge.

Neil Dexter’s side are level on points with leaders Lancashire, although the Red Rose have played two fewer games.

Gordon Drummond returns to captain Scotland in their Group B tie with Durham at Uddingston.

Drummond returns to the side after missing out on last week’s clash with the Welsh Dragons at Cardiff due to work commitments, while Safyaan Sharif will be pushing for a start after recently returning from a knee injury.

Following the elation of a historic Twenty20 international victory over Bangladesh, the Saltires were brought back down to earth with an eight-wicket CB40 defeat at the hands of the Dragons and captain Drummond is hoping for a positive response.

“We have two games left in this competition and need to put in a performance in these last two fixtures, and make sure that we are confident in the type of cricket we want to play,” he said.

Durham come into the tie after claiming the scalp of Australia A in a three-day tour game at the Emirates Durham ICG, where Ian Blackwell claimed seven second-innings wickets

Nottinghamshire will look to get their CB40 season back on track when they travel to Swansea to face the Welsh Dragons.

The Outlaws’ loss to Surrey on Wednesday evening dropped them to third place in Group B and broke a run of four straight victories.

All-rounder Graham Wagg could return from injury for the Dragons, having been named in a 13-man squad.
