Shah's parade ruined by rain

Yorkshire Bank

Owais Shah

Owais Shah's unbeaten 74 proved a statistical footnote as Middlesex were frustrated in their designs by rain at Lord's

A fine innings by England batsman Owais Shah counted for nothing when rain arrived at Lord’s to wash out Middlesex’s Clydesdale Bank 40 clash with the Netherlands.

The right-hander reached an unbeaten 74 from 89 balls with six fours and two sixes when persistent rain arrived for a second time with the Panthers on 185 for four after 32.3 overs.

The game had already been reduced to 33 overs a side after an earlier shower led to the loss of seven overs.

But Shah remained unfazed by the delay, returning to clip a six over square-leg that raised a century stand with fourth-wicket partner Gareth Berg.

Berg, who had also posted a 37-ball fifty with seven boundaries, fell leg before to what transpired to be the final ball of the game.

With no sign of the showers abating, umpires Rob Bailey and Martin Bodenham duly abandoned the match, from which both sides took a point.
