Rain ruins Lord’s clash
Rain at Lord's today prevented the Netherlands, the surprise Group A leaders in the Clydesdale Bank 40, from having the chance to add Middlesex to their impressive list of conquests in this season's competition.
No play at all was possible, despite a break in the weather in mid-afternoon which encouraged the teams to warm up on the outfield and the MCC groundstaff to peel back the covers and start to finish their pitch preparations.
But, before the two sides could toss up and name their line-ups, rain began to fall again and, at just before 5pm, the match was abandoned.
Both Middlesex and the Netherlands take one point, giving the leaders a total of nine points this season as they sit atop of the Group A table having won four of their previous five games.
Middlesex, who are the only team to beat the table-toppers in this year's CB40 so far after winning the first meeting between the two in Voorburg a fortnight ago, now have five points from their five group matches.
