Scotland snap up Symes
South African all-rounder Jean Symes will fulfil the role of overseas player for Scotland in this year’s Clydesdale Bank 40.
Symes, an aggressive top-order batsman who also bowls useful left-arm spin, replaces George Worker after the latter was selected for New Zealand’s emerging player programme in February.
A former youth international for South Africa, Symes turned in a man of the match performance against Scotland in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup.
He has also featured in the Lancashire leagues, and will play for Eastern Premier League outfit Watsonian CC this summer when not on duty for the Saltires.
Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith said, "We are delighted to have secured Jean to replace George Worker. As a top-order batter and left-arm spinner, he was exactly the type of cricketer we were looking for.
“I’m sure he will be a useful addition for the Saltires and Watsonian CC for the 2012 season.”
