Maharoof and Silva win Sri Lanka calls
Sri Lanka have added Lancashire all-rounder Farveez Maharoof and wicketkeeper Kaushal Silva to their squad for the start of their tour of England.
The duo will provide cover for the members of the party whose arrival is due to be delayed by Indian Premier League commitments, meaning they will not be available for the opening tour match against Middlesex starting on May 14.
Five of Sri Lanka's Test squad, including former captain Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, will remain at the IPL for an extra week and are expected to arrive in time to play against England Lions at Derby from May 19.
New Sri Lanka skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan, who is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, is expected to arrive for the start of the tour whose first Test of three begins on May 26.
Lancashire’s overseas player Maharoof has made an impressive start to the season with a century on debut against Somerset in the LV= County Championship.
Should he just be required for the Middlesex game, the 26-year-old would only miss Lancashire's Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Somserset on May 15.
Silva, 24, is uncapped but has an impressive first-class average of 45 and will provide wicketkeeping cover for Prasanna Jayawardene.
Nuwan Pradeep, who has yet to play for Sri Lanka, is also expected to travel for the start of the tour instead of remaining with Royal Challengers Bangalore where he has yet to play a match for the franchise. However, with Dilhara Fernando, Thisara Perera and Suraj Randiv not available for the Middlesex match the selectors have drafted in reinforcements.
