1937; October 6 - Born.
1980: Joins Glamorgan board as chairman of marketing.
1993: Succeeds county legend Tony Lewis as Glamorgan chairman, holding the post for nearly five years.
1997: Joins board of the ECB as deputy chairman.
2001: Retires from the business world, after rising to the position of commercial director of Electrical Steel.
2003: Starts work as Lord MacLaurin’s successor as chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Morgan was soon embroiled in a World Cup row over an England fixture in crisis-torn Zimbabwe. The ECB applied for the game to be rescheduled but when that was turned down England players decided not to play and were subsequently knocked out at the group stage.
2004: An advocate of England’s controversial tour to Zimbabwe. Although believed to be privately dreading the tour to Robert Mugabe’s country, Morgan’s stance helped the ECB avoid the serious financial penalties a boycott would have led to.
2006: August - Involved in negotiations with opposite number Shahriyar Khan after Pakistan left the field in final Test against England following accusations of ball-tampering by controversial umpire Darrell Hair. The team eventually offered to retake the pitch but Hair and Billy Doctrove instead decided to award England victory.
December - Reappointed as ECB chairman
2007: January - One of two nominees, alongside BCCI president Sharad Pawar, to replace Percy Sonn as ICC president.
June 29 - Appointed ICC President.
