New Zealand Under-19s secured a comfortable six-wicket win over England in the final one-day international to draw the five-match series 1-1.
The tourists dominated the match from the moment they won the toss and put England in - Greg Morgan quickly reducing the hosts to 33 for four.
England pair Liam Dawson and Tom Westley mounted a strong fightback to help the hosts post 238 for nine but New Zealand had few problems chasing the runs down with 13 balls to spare.
The Northampton pitch offered a little bit to both the spinners and seamers but the ball swung far more in the morning than the afternoon.
Morgan began the day by tearing through the England order, claiming figures of 5-39 from his 10 overs.
Morgan had Alex Wakely caught behind for 13, before bowling Greg Smith for eight.
Doug Bracewell pitched in with the wicket of Dan Redfern for a duck and Morgan struck again to get rid of Alex Hales and leave England rocking on 33 for four.
But New Zealand’s change bowlers were unable to maintain the same intensity and Hampshire all-rounder Dawson and Essex youngster Westley moved along briskly to add 118 runs before Dawson (50) fell to George Worker looking to up the run-rate.
Dawson and Westley nudged the ball around intelligently although some of Westley’s running between the wickets left a bit to be desired and he and Dawson were lucky to survive some close calls to the third umpire.
Westley was eventually snared for 85 by Kane Williamson but Ben Brown and James Harris added useful late runs before the Glamorgan all-rounder was spectacularly caught on the boundary by Harry Boam for 20.
Brown was also caught in the deep attempting one shot too many but not before the wicketkeeper had added a useful 31.
George Worker pounded a brisk 45 to kick-start the New Zealand attack and all the top order made useful contributions.
Kane Williamson and Michael Bracewell moved the score along to 142 before the latter was caught and bowled by Dawson’s left-arm spin.
Fraser Colson made 32 before being caught at slip off Will Beer, leaving Williamson and Tamati Clarke to cruise towards the finishing line.
But before they could secure victory Williamson was run-out in bizarre fashion. He chipped Dawson straight to Beer at mid-on, only for the Sussex man to spill the catch. But as Harris raced round to collect the ball Williamson inextricably went looking for a single and could not get back in his ground.
That merely paved the way for Morgan to cement his position as man of the match with a swift 29 not out, including the winning six.
