The Elite Player Development XI failed to qualify for the final of the MCC Tri-Series after ending the round-robin stage without a win.
Though both EPD XI encounters against MCC Universities were washed out, two defeats in the space of five days to the South African Students Sports Union cost them a place in Sunday’s final.
MCC Universities qualified after having three matches washed out during a particularly damp week at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough.
The EPD XI went down by six wickets in their opening match against the tourists last week, despite 41 and 3-29 from Luke Wells, while Charlie Roebuck’s 46 at the top of the order could not prevent a 42-run defeat under the Duckworth-Lewis method yesterday.
The EPD XI were handily placed at 180 for five before rain intervened after 41 overs of the first clash with MCC Universities, who had struggled to 50 for three in the second match when play was abandoned.
