Godleman guides England

Billy Godleman

England Under-19 opening batsman Billy Godleman laid the platform for a crushing 80-run victory with an unbeaten hundred in the fourth one-day international with Pakistan at Grace Road.

Man-of-the-match Godleman hit 149 not out and struck 14 fours and a six in his masterly display, finishing the 50 overs with the highest score by an England Under-19 batsman.

England were asked to bat and they responded with the highest score in Under 19 one-day internationals - 313 for seven and Godleman had good support from his fellow opener Alex Wakely (39) as the pair shared a century stand for the first wicket.

Yorkshire’s Adam Lyth continued his impressive form with 75 from 65 balls and several batsman sacrificed their wickets as England produced a huge total.

Usman Salahuddin sculpted a cultured 60, Ali Asad hit 41 and Shan Masood 41 but Pakistan were always struggling, especially against the seam bowling of Steven Finn, who recorded his best figures of 4-22.

When Finn dismissed Salahuddin the writing was on the wall for the touring side.

They were dismissed in the 47th over for 233 and lead the series 2-1 with the final game at the same ground on Thursday.
