Rashid stars with bat and ball
Adil Rashid produced a five-star performance for England U19s as the hosts posted a commanding 392 all out on day two of the second Test against India U19s at Canterbury.
Rashid scored a well-crafted 114 off just 194 deliveries, which included 15 fours and three sixes, as the home side look to go ahead in the three-match series having drawn the first Test at Canterbury.
Resuming on 279 for six, Rashid and Greg Wood (left) put on 102 for the seventh wicket before the former was eventually caught by Abu Necheem Ahmed off Sumit Sharma to bring his fine innings to a close.
Ahmed (4-79) then mopped up the tail in double-quick fashion, with only Wood offering any form of resistance thanks to a stoic 48.
In reply, India made a solid start as opening pair Uday Kaul and Aziz Praveez put on 64 for the first wicket.
Aziz departed for 49, snapped up lbw by Rashid (2-88), but Sharma then combined with Kaul to maintain the visitors’ momentum as they pushed the total past 150.
England needed a breakthrough and were thankful they got two in quick succession.
Andrew Miller (left) had Sharma lbw for 42 before Rashid picked up his second wicket, that of Kaul (46).
It looked as though England may have turned the match around but Tanmay Srivastava (24) and Virat Kholi (47) ensured it was the tourists who closed - on 230 for three - with the upper hand.
