TwelfthMan: My account
Essex’s Tom Westley, Yorkshire bowler Ben Sanderson and Nottinghamshire’s Ian Saxelby have been called into the England Under-19 squad to play Bangladesh A.
The trio were called up as Middlesex duo Billy Godleman and Steven Finn and Chris Woakes of Warwickshire will be involved in the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals, forcing them to miss the three-day game.
Seamer Saxelby is included after taking five wickets for his county’s second XI in the draw against Lancashire.
Saxelby’s figures of 5-64 from 21 overs frustrated a strong Lancashire side that included Paul Horton and Iain Sutcliffe and prompted coach Wayne Noon to recommend him for a call up following the withdrawals.
“Ian and Luke Fletcher were outstanding in the game and are coming on in leaps and bounds,” said Noon.
“They both need to knuckle down and work towards earning a place in the Nottinghamshire Outlaws side for the Pro40 competition and they are deserving of their place in the England side to face Bangladesh.”
Sanderson has played two championship games this season for Yorkshire while Westley has made three half-centuries for Essex.
England Under-19 squad (for three-day match with Bangladesh A, July 6-8): Alex Wakely (captain, Northamptonshire), Ben Brown (wkt, Sussex), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), Luke Fletcher (Nottinghamshire), James Goodman (Kent), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), James Harris (Glamorgan), Daniel Redfern (Derbyshire), Ben Sanderson (Yorkshire), Ian Saxelby (Nottinghamshire), James Taylor (Leicestershire), Tom Westley (Essex).
