Williamson keeps Under-19s at bay
An unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 121 between Kane Williamson and Harry Boam frustrated England Under-19s as the second Test with New Zealand Under-19s headed for a draw.
Responding to the tourists' first-innings total of 372, England had been bowled out for 402 - a lead of 30 - earlier in the day.
England’s score was largely down to an unbeaten 150 from Leicestershire batsman Greg Smith.
Leading the series 1-0, the hosts scented the chance of an unlikely victory as Ian Saxelby and Stuart Meaker reduced the Black Caps to 65 for four.
But Williamson (108 not out) and Boam (50no) steadied the ship and New Zealand go into the final day on 186 for four, a lead of 156.
New Zealand's innings got off to a terrible start as Saxelby bowled George Worker for one.
Dean Robinson was then trapped leg before by the same bowler to leave the tourists reeling on 38 for two, a position which deteriorated to 41 for three when Meaker bowled Fraser Colson for a duck.
Meaker had Craig Cachopa caught for 15 but that was as good as it got for England, who will need early wickets in the morning if they are to force a result and extend their series lead.
