England Under-19s responded to defeat in the one-off Test and warmed up for the seven-match one-day series with a 117-run demolition of their Bangladesh counterparts in Chittagong.

The tourists’ first win, at the third time of asking, came in a 50-over warm-up game ahead of Friday’s first one-day international at the same venue: the Jahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

James Vince, who did not play in the Test, and Joe Root provided an ideal riposte to Monday’s setback with an opening stand of 153 after captain Azeem Rafiq won the toss.

Hampshire’s Vince top-scored with 87 from 102 balls, including two sixes and seven fours, after Yorkshire’s Root perished in the 33rd over for 65.

Durham’s Ben Stokes then lashed four maximums and two fours en route to 47 from 27 deliveries to help his side to 258 for eight in 50 overs. Left-arm spinner Mominul Haque claimed 3-22 from seven overs.

Gloucestershire seamer David Payne removed Bangladesh’s openers cheaply before Stokes and Surrey’s Matthew Dunn struck as the hosts’ top four fell for one, two, three and four respectively.

Stokes left Bangladesh floundering at 23 for five and they never recovered. The medium-pacer capped a fine all-round display with the final wicket in the 46th over to finish with 3-21 in 7.3 overs.

There were two wickets apiece for Payne, Dunn and Warwickshire left-arm spinner Paul Best.
