Paul Collingwood will fly home early from England’s tour of Australia and miss the final game of the one-day international series after suffering a back injury.

The Durham all-rounder picked up the injury attempting to heave the last ball of England’s innings in the sixth ODI yesterday and, subsequently, could not bowl.

Despite returning to the UK early, the 34-year-old should be fit for the World Cup later this month and is set to fly to the sub-continent with the rest of the squad on February 12.

Collingwood, who retired from Tests at the end of the Ashes triumph, continues to play an important role in limited-overs cricket.

He will be hoping to star in the ICC's flagship tournament as England look to build on last year's World Twenty20 success, which he captained.

England have been beaten three times in the World Cup final since its inception in 1975 and are yet to win the event - something they will be looking to change over the coming weeks.
