Mike Hussey, right, enjoys catching Michael Yardy yesterday, when the 35-year-old suffered a “significant” hamstring injury

Mike Hussey suffered a “significant” hamstring injury during yesterday’s first one-day international against England, Cricket Australia has revealed.

CA is tomorrow set to confirm the extent of the damage sustained by the 35-year-old batsman, who made 21 in Melbourne as Australia overhauled 294 with six wickets in hand.

Barring long-term injury, Hussey - the older brother of David - is a certainty for Australia’s 15-man World Cup squad due to be announced tomorrow, but could miss one or more of the remaining six ODIs versus England.

Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “Scans today have confirmed that Mike Hussey sustained a significant left hamstring injury during the first ODI against England at the MCG.

“The course of management for this injury will be determined in the next 24 hours.”
