Victoria call on untried quartet
Victoria have named four debutants, including young all-rounder Alex Keath, for the tour match against England at the MCG, starting tomorrow.
Ryan Carters, who has already played Ryobi Cup and Twenty20 cricket for Victoria, batsman Tom Stray and pace bowler Jayde Herrick are the other newcomers.
Herrick recently claimed six wickets on his first-class debut when called up as a last-minute replacement for New Zealand provincial side Wellington, while Stray has been in good form in the Futures League with 254 runs this season at 51.
Keath, who smashed an unbeaten 192 for Victoria in his most recent Futures League outing against Western Australia, is set to bat at number five or six although he is unlikely to bowl because of knee tendonitis.
All-rounder John Hastings returns after missing the past two matches with a shin injury.
Veteran batsman David Hussey, who hopes to use the match to press his selection claims for the third Ashes Test in Perth, is looking forward to playing alongside 19-year-old Keath.
"He's a fantastic kid, very level-headed and really loves his cricket," said Hussey.
"I think he's got high ambitions of playing Test cricket, one-day cricket and Twenty20 cricket for Australia and, after seeing him in the nets during the week, you can see a lot of talent there."
Victoria squad: Cameron White (captain), Ryan Carters, Aaron Finch, John Hastings, Jayde Herrick, Michael Hill, Jon Holland, David Hussey, Alexander Keath, Clinton McKay, Tom Stray, Matthew Wade.
