Bangladesh drop Aftab and Shahadat
Bangladesh have made two changes to their side for the second Test against England, with debutant Jahurul Islam and seamer Shafiul Islam coming in.
Jahurul has been brought in to replace the out-of-form Aftab Ahmed at number four in the order, while Shafiul has been picked to share the new ball with Rubel Hossain after Shahadat Hossain disappointed in the first Test.
Jahurul will make his Test bow after being added to the squad following Raqibul Hasan’s surprise retirement on the eve of the series opener.
The 24-year-old finished the Bangladesh season as the country’s top run-scorer with 965 runs at 68.92 and head coach Jamie Siddons is hoping he can provide the runs Aftab has conspicuously failed to in recent months.
“This was definitely a moment I have looked forward to since I became a cricket player,” said the Rajshahi Division batsman of his call-up.
“The dream of playing cricket at Test level has always been my chief motivation in the game. I have been in good form coming into the national team and I will take the confidence of the runs I have been scoring into the Test match.
“The environment has been amazing and everyone, starting from the players to the coaching staff and management, has welcomed me and have supported me.”
