Kieswetter joins one-day squad
The ECB today announced that Somerset’s Craig Kieswetter has been added to the England one-day squad to tour Bangladesh.
The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has been called up after impressing on the current England Lions tour to the United Arab Emirates.
He has played in all five Twenty20 matches and his good run of form included a match-winning innings of 81 in 61 balls for the Lions against England in Abu Dhabi.
Commenting on Kieswetter’s call-up, England national selector Geoff Miller said: “Craig has impressed both the EPP and national coaches with his attitude, glovework and hard-hitting batting during the course of his time with the England Performance Programme.”
Kieswetter said: “I’ve worked very hard over the course of the winter as part of the England Performance Programme and have been especially pleased with my recent form on the England Lions tour to the UAE.
“I’m delighted to have been called into the one-day squad and am excited about the opportunity to tour Bangladesh with the England team.”
Kieswetter, who was a member of the EPP training camp in Pretoria before Christmas, became eligible to play for England on February 17.
He will join the England squad ahead of its arrival in Bangladesh on Sunday February 21 and is immediately available for selection.
The England team is scheduled to play two warm-up matches in Fatullah before facing Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series that takes place in Dhaka and Chittagong.
