James Anderson and Jonathan Trott have been replaced in England’s one-day squad to face India by Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler.

Woakes and Buttler get their chance as two of the stars of the tourists’ Test series victory are given a rest while another man who impressed in Nagpur, international debutant Joe Root, has been added to the Twenty20 party.

James Anderson and Jonathan Trott, who starred in England's Test series defeat of India, have been rested for January's five ODIs

Root, who made 93 patient runs at the VCA Stadium but has a healthy career T20 strike-rate, provides batting cover to a squad captained by Eoin Morgan in the absence of the injured Stuart Broad for this week’s two T20 internationals.

Buttler, already a member of the T20 party, has one ODI cap to his name while Woakes, who memorably took six wickets against Australia at Brisbane in 2011, has six.

The T20 games are on Thursday at Pune and Saturday in Mumbai. The tourists will returned to India in the new year for five ODIs, which run from January 11 to 27.
