Briggs suffers ankle injury
Left-arm spinner Danny Briggs has been ruled out of the rest of England and England Lions’ winter by a sprained right ankle sustained in training today.
The 21-year-old will miss Sunday’s last one-day international with India, the Twenty20 international series versus New Zealand and England Lions’ tour of Australia.
Briggs has not featured in the first four India ODIs and picked up the injury in a fitness session at Dharmasala after England’s arrival there today. He has been replaced in the T20I squad by Joe Root. A replacement for the Lions party has not been named.
Root, having made his senior England debuts in all formats this winter on the India tour, was yesterday added to the ODI squad for New Zealand. He was already a member of the Test party.
Briggs played once for England in last year’s World Twenty20 and in December’s first T20 international against India. Between those appearances he toured India with the England Performance Programme.
