Alastair Cook will remain with England in the United Arab Emirates after being added to the squad for the three T20s versus Pakistan

Alastair Cook has been added to England’s squad for the Twenty20 series with Pakistan as injury cover for Ravi Bopara.

Bopara missed today’s four-wicket one-day international win at Dubai, which sealed a 4-0 whitewash, due to a back problem.

Cook played a pivotal role in the series success, making back-to-back hundreds in the first two contests before adding 80 in the third.

Should ODI captain Cook play in the forthcoming three-game rubber, which starts on Thursday in Dubai, it will be under the leadership of T20 skipper Stuart Broad.

“I’ve been asked to stay on,” Cook said after today's match. “It’s not often you get to hit the ball as well as I’ve hit the ball in the last week and a half so it’s important to keep playing.”

Team director Andy Flower added: “Ravi Bopara’s really struggling with his back, otherwise he would have played today.

"He would be part of out Twenty20 side but, if he doesn’t recover in time for the first Twenty20 match, we don’t [otherwise] have a spare batsman."
