I'll be back - Vaughan
Michael Vaughan insists he still has a future with England despite being left out of the Test squad to tour the West Indies.
The 34-year-old has not played for his country since stepping down as captain in August, although he was awarded a central contract until the end of next season.
Vaughan admitted he was not surprised to have been overlooked for the four-Test series in the Caribbean starting next month, but vowed to earn his place back.
"It was disappointing but not a huge surprise to learn I had not been picked for England's tour to the West Indies," Vaughan said.
"England have been consistent with their selection over the past few years and Geoff Miller, the national selector, said a few months ago that I would need to score runs to get back into the side."
The terrorist attacks in Mumbai led to the cancellation of the England Lions games Vaughan had hoped to use to rediscover his form.
He added: "I still feel I am mentally fresh and dangerous as a player but I understand the decision not to pick me. Now I just want to bide my time and enjoy a proper, settled pre-season with Yorkshire.
"Preparing for the summer and scoring runs at the start of the season is the best way for me to force my way back into the England side.
"I have to knuckle down with (Yorkshire) and start the season as well as I can," Vaughan wrote in his Daily Telegraph column.
"If that happens then I will put guys under pressure and still have the chance to play for England again, something that I dearly would like to do during an Ashes summer."
Miller is adamant that Vaughan remains in England's thoughts, although he admitted a shortage of runs has not helped his case for a recall.
"There's got to be justification of why people are included in the side and since Michael's problems last year when he gave up the captaincy there's not been an awful lot of runs," said Miller.
"I know Mike and I know what he is capable of doing so I'm sure he'll be putting the pressure on the selectors to get back into the side.
"I have no doubt at all that when the early season comes round he will be ready and prepared and he'll be knocking out runs and putting pressure on us."
