Sri Lanka have been given permission by the International Cricket Council to call Suraj Randiv into their squad in place of injured all-rounder Angelo Mathews ahead of tomorrow's World Cup final against India.

Mathews has failed to shake off a right thigh strain suffered during the semi-final win over New Zealand earlier this week. The 23-year-old’s absence weakens an already fragile batting line-up for the co-hosts, with Mathews’ replacement averaging a shade over 15.

However, in 21 one-day internationals, Randiv has taken 22 wickets at 33.50. The 26-year-old off-spinner has also played in three Test matches and six Twenty20 internationals.

Sri Lanka have already said that star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who has taken 15 wickets during the competition, will play in Mumbai despite concerns over his fitness.

The veteran is adamant that he will retire from all forms of international cricket after this tournament as he looks to bring the curtain down at the Wankhede Stadium on a sensational career that has seen him take 534 ODI wickets in 349 matches.
