Graeme Swann

Graeme Swann should be available to play in England's entire World Cup programme after his wife Sarah gave birth to their son Wilfred today

Graeme Swann will be available as expected for England’s opening World Cup match against the Netherlands following the birth of his son today.

The off-spinner remained in England when his team-mates flew to Bangladesh last weekend, so that he could attend the birth of his first child.

It was always anticipated he would miss England’s two warm-up matches - the second is against Pakistan in Fatullah tomorrow - but would arrive in time for Tuesday’s Group B opener in Nagpur.

His wife Sarah gave birth to 8lb 9oz son Wilfred today, and Swann is therefore set to fly to India this weekend.

“This is an incredibly special day for us, and we are both absolutely delighted and very proud parents,” he said.

“Both Sarah and Wilfred are doing very well, and I am looking forward to enjoying the next couple of days with them both before I fly out to join the team for the World Cup.”
