South Africa enjoy warm-up success

ICC World Twenty20 2009

Skipper Sunette Loubser led the way with the ball for South Africa, conceding just seven runs from four miserly overs

South Africa women produced a disciplined bowling display to see off Sri Lanka by 26 runs in their opening warm-up match for the ICC World Twenty20.

Teenager Mignon du Preez hit an unbeaten 51 and opener Susan Benade added 47 but South Africa could only post 118 for three at Taunton Vale CC.

However, Sri Lanka mustered just 92 for eight in response, with skipper Sunette Loubser, who took 1-7 from four overs, the most economical of the South Africa bowlers.

West Indies also recorded a 26-run victory over Pakistan at King's College in Taunton in a game reduced to 14 overs a side.

The Windies reached 114 for four after winning the toss and electing to bat, with 17-year-old Deandra Dottin's unbeaten 37 the highest score.

Javeria Khan compiled a defiant unbeaten 35 for Pakistan but they eventually fell well short on 88 for six.

The match between Australia and India at Taunton Vale was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
