World T20 warm-up fixtures revealed

ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010

Paul Collingwood

Paul Collingwood will lead England in two warm-up matches in as many days ahead of the tournament proper starting on April 30

England will play warm-up games against Bangladesh and South Africa in the lead-up to the ICC World Twenty20, it was confirmed today.

The International Cricket Council revealed the full schedule of practice matches in the West Indies.

England meet Bangladesh - their most recent opponents following their tour in February and March - on April 28 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the same venue that will stage their clash with South Africa the following day.

The men’s teams - with the exception of India, who have opted against warm-up matches - will take on the other competing nations or Caribbean host XIs in 12 contests over three days in Barbados, St Lucia and Guyana.

The opening day of the tournament proper on April 30 sees clashes between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, and West Indies and Ireland - England’s group D opponents - in Guyana.

England, who will be led by Paul Collingwood, begin their World Twenty20 campaign against the hosts in Guyana on May 3.

England women, the reigning World Twenty20 champions, meet India and South Africa on May 2 and 3 respectively, two of the eight warm-up games that will take place in St Kitts over those two days.

Australia provide the opposition in England’s first competitive match in St Kitts on May 5, while the final of the men’s and women’s events are set on May 16.

None of the men’s or women’s warm-up encounters - for which admission is free - will carry Twenty20 international status.
