Kamran Akmal struck a superb unbeaten 92 as Pakistan chased down an imposing target of 186 to beat rivals India by five wickets in today’s World Twenty20 warm-up match at Colombo.

Kamran smashed five fours and six sixes - including the match-winning hit off the first ball of the final over - to guide Pakistan home with the aid of veteran Shoaib Malik, who contributed a quickfire 37 not out in an unbroken 95-run stand.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed impressive figures of 4-23 in Pakistan’s run-chase, but each of his five fellow bowlers went for more than 10 runs an over.

India had earlier managed 185 for three, with Virat Kohli making 75 not out off 47 balls and Rohit Sharma 56.

South Africa earned a nine-run win over New Zealand on the back of stellar displays from Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers.

The Proteas made 186 for six - thanks chiefly to de Villiers’ 54 - and were then made to sweat as Black Caps captain Ross Taylor threatened to win the game single-handedly.

However, after smashing seven sixes and two fours in a 42-ball 75, Taylor fell in the 16th over and New Zealand could only make 177 for eight, Steyn claiming 4-25.

Chris Gayle also looked in good touch as he found the boundary with regularity in an unbeaten 65 that helped West Indies claim a comfortable eight-wicket win over Afghanistan, who had made only 122 for seven despite Asghar Stanikzai's 53.

In today’s other warm-up game, Ireland edged out Bangladesh by five runs after a key final over from Trent Johnston when two wickets fell and only four runs were conceded.

Ireland had posted 164 for six, Paul Stirling smashing a whirlwind 71 at the top of the order. Bangladesh could only make 159 for nine in reply.
