EPD U19s stumble to defeat
An Elite Player Development Under-19 XI stumbled to a two-wicket defeat against Nottinghamshire 2nd XI despite a brave innings from Chris Jones at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough.
The Somerset youngster struck 62 off 98 balls, including six fours, before becoming one of Jake Ball’s three victims of the day.
But the rest of the batting line-up failed to build on their opener’s efforts with Sussex’s Matthew Machan the next highest scorer with 24 as the team slumped to a humble 198 all out.
And despite an ominous start for Notts at 15 for three, Irish International Kevin O'Brien plundered 78 off 101 as the senior side reached the 199 target with more than two overs and two wickets to spare.
Sussex’s Luke Wells was the pick of the young ballers with 3-41, including the prized scalp of O’Brien.
The U19s face the same opposition tomorrow at the same venue.
