Development XI fall short
Kosala Kulasekara’s unbeaten 61 proved decisive as Sri Lanka A beat an England Development XI in a rain-affected one-day tour match at Old Trafford.
The tourists, facing unscheduled opposition given Lancashire’s Friends Life t20 commitments this evening, triumphed by six runs after successfully defending a total of 165 for nine in 31 overs.
Kulasekara’s contribution was key, the all-rounder hitting seven fours in a restorative 54-ball innings that rescued Sri Lanka A, who won the toss, from 57 for five following a belated start.
He was assisted by Roshen Silva, who contributed 31, while Moin Ashraf, Matthew Dunn and Tymal Mills shared six wickets.
Despite 35 from Josh Cobb and Tom Maynard’s 33, the Development XI’s reply were undermined by the loss of regular wickets.
Ateeq Javed made 24 and Zafar Ansari an unbeaten 23, but Sri Lanka A - led by Tharanga Lakshitha, who claimed 3-35 - limited them the Development XI to 159 for six.
