U19s beaten in opener
England Under-19s lost the first game of their South Africa tour as a Western Cape Invitation XI chased 198 with seven wickets spare at the Wally Wilson Oval, Newlands, in Cape Town.
Yesterday, the first of two, the hosts being dismissed for 117 in reply to 132 for seven declared heralded stumps.
Today Dominic Sibley, who saw opening partner Jonathan Tattersall caught behind first ball to Justin Dill, made 54 before retiring out. Ryan Gibson’s run-a-ball 33 then allowed Shiv Thakor to declare on 182 for five.
The Invitation XI’s top three set a solid base, which Hayes van der Berg and captain Zubayr Hamza built on with an unbroken stand of 103. Van der Berg’s 86 and Hamza’s 35 completed victory in 49 overs.
