Leicestershire strike back
Leicestershire second XI gained immediate revenge for the previous day’s defeat to an Elite Player Development Under-19 XI with a four-wicket victory at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough.
The county side reached their target of 231 with 13 balls to spare thanks largely to 64 from captain Matthew Boyce and 52 by Wayne White, rendering Surrey’s George Edwards’ 3-44 in vain.
Opener Charlie Roebuck, of Yorkshire, earlier compiled 87 to set the under-19s up for a large total, but leg-spinner Josh Cobb ran through the tail to finish with 5-34 from five overs. The U19s were dismissed with an over unused.
The sides meet for the final time tomorrow before Derbyshire seconds are the U19s’ opponents on Thursday and Friday.
