The second Royal London one-day international between England Under-19s and Australia at Chesterfield fell victim to the wet weather.
Glamorgan’s Aneurin Donald, Lancashire’s Haseeb Hameed and several other members of England’s Under-19 squad had an unusual and important distraction the day before the second Royal London one-day international against Australia in Chesterfield on Friday.
Middlesbrough-born Matthew Renshaw seized a surprise chance with Australia’s Under-19s to steer them to an eight-wicket win over England in the first of five Royal London one-day internationals.
Leg-spinner Matt Parkinson was praised by both coaches after his Lancashire team-mate Haseeb Hameed ensured the Youth Test between England and Australia finished with a flourish on the fourth evening at the Emirates Durham ICG.
England Under-19s had not played a Youth Test in Durham for 14 years before resuming their Ashes rivalry in the North East this week, but it was definitely worth the wait.
