England Under-19s ended their tour of Bangladesh on a disappointing note courtesy of a 76-run defeat in the seventh and final one-day international in Dhaka.

Already 4-2 down in the series and with little more than pride to play for, Adam Ball’s side were chiefly undone by all-rounder Al-Amin, who contributed 65 to a total of 237 for five before returning figures of 5-33 as the tourists stumbled to 161 all out in reply.

Mosaddek Hossain also impressed for Bangladesh with 79 not out, while Craig Overton, who returned 3-34 from six overs, and opener Daniel Bell-Drummond, a half-centurion in England’s reply, can take heart from their efforts in a losing cause.

After being asked to bat first, the hosts initially limped to 70 for three as Overton ran through their top order.

Anamul Haque and Salman Hossain fell for 12 and five respectively, while Soumya Sarkar saw his promising innings come to an end on 48 when he was caught by Sam Kelsall.

Mohammad Abid then bowled Bangladesh captain Asif Ahmed to give England a further boost, but Mosaddek and Al-Amin batted through the remainder of the innings, collecting 10 fours and two sixes between them. Al-Amin was eventually run out, by Sam Wood, off the final ball of the 50th over.

After Kelsall had been trapped lbw to Dewan Sabbir for two in the second over of the chase, England were lifted into a strong position by Bell-Drummond and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, who shared 64 for the second wicket.

However, once the latter was bowled by Al-Amin for 23, wickets fell at regular intervals, including that of Bell-Dummond for 55.

England were duly dismissed with more than eight overs unused, Naeem Islam jnr having last man Gavin Griffiths stumped to bring an end to the match.
