U19s raise £2,000
England Under-19s have raised £2,000 for South African charity Reach For A Dream during their tour of the country.
Prior to the trip, three members of the party – Shiv Thakor, Gavin Griffiths and Olly Stone – researched potential charities they could dedicate some time to and generate funds for.
They eventually decided upon Reach For A Dream, who support children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses.
Players subsequently embarked upon fundraising efforts prior to making the journey, with Tom Shrewsbury doing so by waxing one of his legs.
The squad visited the charity earlier this month, taking with them almost £200 worth of food, for which the money was raised from fines – collected from players and staff, often for comical reasons.
The day proved an enjoyable one for all concerned, with players and children taking part in a variety of outdoor activities.
Unfortunately, of the three who researched the charity, only Griffiths attended as Thakor had left the tour due to injury and Stone was ill with dehydration.
The money has yet to be given to the charity as it has not been decided which project within the hospital it should go to; options include providing better outdoor facilities, clothing or supplying a ward with heat during the winter.
