Duckett seals glory for U19s
England Under-19s won the County Second XI Twenty20 competition after beating holders Sussex at Arundel.
This was the first year that the Under-19s had entered a team into the competition and they managed to record six wins from eight matches in the zonal round of games before beating Worcestershire in the semi-finals by four wickets.
Chasing 156 for victory in the final on Saturday, a second wicket partnership of 116 between Northamptonshire's Ben Duckett (73 not out) and Sam Kelsall (56) of Nottinghamshire saw the Under-19s reach its target in the 17th over.
England Development Programme Head Coach Tim Boon said: “Participating in the competition gave us the chance to see players from outside the England Development Programme, to observe players within the programme competing for places for the England Under-19s World Cup squad in a competitive environment and for players to gain experience in potential roles.
"The victory was even more impressive as any England Under-19s players who were, or could have been playing in county first XIs, were not considered for selection during this campaign.”
