Wood eyes Yorkshire spot
England Under-19 wicket-keeper/batsman Greg Wood could be the beneficiary of an unfortunate injury to Yorkshire keeper Simon Guy.
Guy has ruptured an achilles tendon while playing badminton and could miss the start of next season, with Wood and Gerard Brophy ready to fight it out for the gloves in the Yorkshire first team.
Guy suffered his injury just over a week ago when he was having a coaching session in Stockton and has been put in plaster for two months.
He hopes to begin a rehab programme as soon as the plaster has been removed.
Brophy was the man in possession for much of last season but Guy won back his first-team place and impressed with his glovework and batting late in the campaign.
Guy also captained the second XI to their Trophy final against Warwickshire, a game they lost while Wood has been appointed vice-captain of England under-19s for their tour of Malaysia from January 23 until February 24.
The 14-man squad, based in Kuala Lumpur and managed by John Abrahams, will play in two triangular one-day tournaments.
Their opponents in the first tournament will by Malaysia and Sri Lanka and in the second tournament Malaysia and India.
