England are hopeful the International Cricket Council can change the playing regulations to prevent another disappointing ending to the sixth match in their one-day international series in Guwahati.

Thursday's encounter in Kanpur concluded with nine overs remaining when bad light closed in, ending the possibility of a completed match despite both sides expressing reservations about their ability to finish the game beforehand because of local light conditions.

The umpires were prevented from reducing the game to any more than 49 overs or reducing the lunch interval significantly because of he playing regulations, and England fear a repeat scenario in the sixth match on November 29.

Because of its northern location - and the light closing in early - the start time of the Guwahati match has been brought forward half an hour to 8.30am, but England have revealed that other measures are being considered.

"The Kanpur thing was pretty disappointing because we all thought there was a chance of that happening at the start of the game and that was mentioned to the officials but nothing could be done about," explained coach Peter Moores.

"We've spoken to the match referee about Guwahati and they're looking to put some measures in place by talking to the ICC so we don't get a similar situation.

"For players, coaches and everyone who prepares so long to get ready for a game it's frustrating when it doesn't go to its full conclusion."

He added: "I don't think we want an earlier start but there are measures like reducing the lunch interval before the match so people know where we are and also identify the cut-off time when it does go dark so we can make sure we can get a game in.

"Normally you want to play 50 overs but you don't want to start a game knowing you're not going to finish it because that's frustrating for everybody."
