Yorkshire all-rounder Adil Rashid was "delighted" to get the call confirming he would take part in England's trip to the West Indies.
The 20-year-old leg-spinner from Bradford took 62 wickets for Yorkshire last season and boasts a first-class batting average of 32, including two centuries and 10 half-centuries.
He has won admirers both inside and outside the England set-up, and recently accompanied the senior squad on their tour of India, although he was not officially considered a member of the Test party.
That changes for the West Indies tour, though, and Rashid could make his Test debut in the Caribbean, with the four-Test series due to start on February 4 in Jamaica.
"Obviously I'm delighted I'll be part of the England squad to go to the West Indies," Rashid said.
"I found out yesterday from the selectors. I was just at home sitting watching TV when I got a call from the selectors saying I'd been selected for the West Indies tour.
"It means quite a lot to be part of the England set-up and on the England tour to go to the West Indies. Any England thing is a big deal and hopefully I can do well."
He savoured the experience of the trip to India, where Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar were England's preferred spinners.
Rashid may be handed his chance to shine on the upcoming tour, and the England coaching staff will be glad to have the chance to see him at close quarters, having had a glimpse of his potential in India.
"I went for the experience and to see how they cope with everything, and see how they do things. I went for the experience and it was good experience," Rashid told the BBC.
"Just to talk to people like (Kevin) Pietersen and (Andrew) Flintoff it's been a really good help to me.ā
