Lions pegged back
Trinidad & Tobago mounted a comeback against England Lions on a rain-hit second day of their WICB championship clash at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Resuming on 311 for nine, Nathan Buck and Jade Dernbach added just 14 more runs to the tourists’ total before the latter was caught by Justin Guillen off Rayad Emrit, who finished with 4-48.
Lendl Simmons and Guillen started confidently in reply, putting on 58 for the first wicket.
Guillen was the more attacking of the two but he perished when he was caught by Liam Plunkett off Adil Rashid for 39.
Simmons was joined at the crease by Runako Morton and the pair looked to be going along serenely until the opener fell lbw to Danny Briggs for 37.
Former West Indies batsman Morton was unfazed, though, as he and captain Daren Ganga continued to score at a steady rate before rain arrived early in the afternoon to bring the day’s play to an abrupt end, with the hosts on 173 for two - 152 runs behind the Lions' first-innings 325.
Morton and Ganga will resume tomorrow on 46 and 34 respectively.
