Smith stars as Windies A cruise
Devon Smith hit a rapid hundred and Andre Fletcher fell just short of three figures as West Indies A opened the triangular one-day series also featuring England Lions with a crushing 166-run win over India A.
Left-handed Smith, a veteran of 31 Tests and 32 one-day internationals - the most recent of which was only last year - put his experience to good use with a fluent 104 off 98 balls at Wantage Road.
Fletcher, who has won 15 one-day caps for West Indies, was marginally less destructive, contributing 88 off 93 deliveries to an imposing total of 329 for six after they were asked to bat first.
Their opening stand of 193 in little more than 30 overs was more than an outclassed India A could muster as a team: they were bowled out for 163 with 16.4 overs unused.
Leg-spinner Anthony Martin was the chief beneficiary as he returned figures of 3-47, while Lionel Baker - another member of the side with international experience - took 2-32.
West Indies’ total also featured sizeable contributions from Kevin Stoute, who made an unbeaten 52, and Andre Russell, who smashed 42 off just 21 balls as they added 71 for the sixth wicket in barely six overs.
West Indies can expect a sterner challenge at the same venue tomorrow when they meet a Lions side set to feature Ian Bell and Ajmal Shahzad, who have been released temporarily from the senior England squad.
The triangular tournament sees the sides play each other twice before the top two contest the final at New Road on July 8.
