Rain keeps Lions waiting
England Lions' first one-day match against New Zealand A has been delayed until Saturday after the Palmerston North wicket was deemed unfit for play.
Heavy overnight rain prompted both captains to agree to try again in 24 hours to allow the centre wicket at Fitzherbert Park to dry.
“The wicket block was affected by moisture after wet weather overnight in Palmerston North, but is expected to be in playable condition by tomorrow,” said a statement from New Zealand Cricket.
“Match officials and both teams have agreed to the first game being played on Saturday.
“The second match will go ahead as scheduled on Monday at Palmerston North.”
The Lions play a Twenty20 match at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth on Thursday, which will round off their tour.
