Hildreth hundred underpins Lions total
A century from captain James Hildreth held England Lions’ innings together on day one against Windward Islands at Windsor Park, Dominica.
Hildreth scored 100 in a total of 280 for eight from 90 overs after choosing to bat first in the WICB regional four-day championship match.
He arrived at the crease with the tourists 13 for two and they were in further trouble when they slipped to 78 for four.
However, Hildreth shared a 90-run stand for the fifth wicket with Jonathan Bairstow, who hit 40. Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes also made useful contributions with 35 and 37 not out respectively.
Left-arm spinner Gary Mathurin, who trapped Hildreth in front, was the pick of the hosts’ bowlers with 3-66 from 33 overs and seamer Mervin Matthew claimed two economical wickets.
The Lions are third in the table, three points behind leaders Jamaica, whom they meet in their next - and last - group game.
