Briggs stars in Lions win
Hampshire spinner Danny Briggs once again excelled for England Lions as they recorded a four-wicket victory in their 50-over warm-up match against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI at Chittagong.
Briggs - the leading wicket-taker in three consecutive England Performance Programme and Lions overseas tours - finished with 4-41 from 10 overs and received good support from Northamptonshire seamer Jack Brooks, who chipped in with 3-28 on debut, as the BCB XI were dismissed for 186 with more than six overs unused.
An opening stand of 76 in 11 overs between Jason Roy and Joe Root gave the Lions an ideal start in their reply and they duly eased to their target in 36.2 overs.
The hosts struggled from the outset as Stuart Meaker and Brooks picked up a wicket apiece in their opening spells.
Rony Talukdar and skipper Mahmudullah contributed 53 and 46 respectively to steady the ship, but the BCB XI quickly folded after the duo had departed.
Briggs was chiefly responsible for their demise in the middle overs, while Brooks returned to clean up the tail.
The Lions then wasted little time in getting ahead of their required run-rate, Roy racing to 40 from 38 deliveries and Root adding 35 off 31 balls.
Both openers fell in quick succession, but James Vince, James Taylor, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler all provided useful contributions to keep the tourists on track, the latter finishing unbeaten on 28.
