Joe Sayers takes Jonathan Trott's place in the England Lions side, having scored 786 runs at an average of 41 this season
Yorkshire opener Joe Sayers has been called into the England Lions team to face Australia in the two-day tour match at Canterbury starting today.
The 25-year-old left-hander will replace Jonathan Trott, who is pushing for a place in the England senior squad for the final Ashes Test against Australia at the Brit Oval.
Sayers’ recognition comes on the back of a profitable domestic season which has seen him score 786 runs at an average of 41 in the LV= County Championship, including 173 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston early this season.
