Teenagers from a Mumbai slum pose with the England Performance Programme squad in India during the coaching afternoon at Poona

The England Performance Programme squad in India organised and carried out a community project, coaching 16 teenagers from a Mumbai slum.

The batsmen, spin bowlers and wicketkeepers were tasked with preparing the project while at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough last month.

They decided to arrange a coaching afternoon in Poona for the 14 to 16-year-olds associated with the Salaam Bombay Foundation. This included having to provide prizes, packed lunches and KwikCricket kits.

The EPP members – who were faced with the challenge of communicating clearly with the teenagers via an interpreter, one they coped with adeptly – tweeted their reactions.

Jason Roy: Good day for the #boysontour, community project with some kids from the slums of Bombay.

Alex Hales: Great day yesterday with the slum children on mumbai, some serious talent knocking about!

Danny Briggs: Hard day training. Good to put a training session on for the community!!

Tom Maynard: Great day helping out the slum children.

The England Development Programme in Pochefstroom, South Africa, are next week due to carry out a community project of their own.
