Buttler and Stokes set up victory
Fifties from Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes aided the England Performance Programme’s chase of 228 in a five-wicket win over a DY Patil Academy XI on the last day of three at Mumbai.
Buttler and Stokes were united at 32 for two and added 59 until the latter fell for 66. On 70 Buttler became the second of three wickets for Vishal Dabolkar but James Taylor’s unbeaten 32 ensured victory on a worn wicket with 5.5 of 36 overs to spare.
The EPP had declared on their overnight 235 for seven and the hosts did likewise at 185 for six on the back of a 100-run sixth-wicket stand between Prashant Naik and Pankat Jaiswal, who respectively made 70 and 43 not out. Stuart Meaker and Stokes each struck twice.
The win, which followed last week's by an innings and 193 runs over the same opponents, was secondary to the experience and completed an excellent training match in outstanding facilities.
