Borthwick spins EPP to victory
Leg-spinner Scott Borthwick’s six wickets skittled a DY Patil Academy XI for 87 to give the England Performance Programme a crushing innings-and-193-run win at Mumbai.
Having amassed a commanding 484 for six yesterday on the back of opening batsman Joe Root’s 166, the EPP made short work of their opponents on the last day of three.
Once Graham Onions and Steven Finn had bowled tidily, Borthwick broke a first-wicket stand of 32. Stuart Meaker then struck three times in succession before Borthwick demolished the middle and lower order. Fellow spinner Simon Kerrigan made the other breakthrough.
Borthwick returned figures of 6-38 and Meaker 3-8 as the hosts, who made 204 in their first innings, were dismissed in 32 overs today.
Finn will remain with the senior England party, travelling with them to Kolkata tomorrow ahead of next week's third Test at Eden Gardens. Meaker, who has been injury cover for Finn since the start of the month, will stay in Mumbai with the EPP squad that he was originally part of.
