On the back of his maiden England call-up, James Harris made it an even more memorable day with three economical wickets in the England Performance Programme’s seven-wicket win over the Netherlands at Pune.

The 22-year-old seamer, today added to England’s Twenty20 squad to face India next week in place of injured captain Stuart Broad, returned 3-13 from seven overs as a strong Dutch side was dismissed for 155 in 33 overs.

Harris and Danny Briggs, another member of the T20 party who took 2-20 from six overs, were the pick of the EPP bowlers. An unbeaten 66 from James Taylor then ensured victory with more than 18 overs to spare.

James Harris, left, caps his first England call-up with three cheap Netherlands wickets as the EPP eased to a seven-wicket victory

The EPP won the toss in the first of two 50-over games in as many days between the teams ahead of a Twenty20 on Sunday.

Stephan Myburgh and Michael Swart gave the Netherlands a smooth start before Harris tightened things up, trapping the latter in front for 22.

The expensive Stuart Meaker then dismissed Wesley Barresi likewise for nought before Harris cheaply bowled Alexei Kervezee and snared Myburgh for 34.

Briggs and Simon Kerrigan controlled the middle of the innings, during which Daan van Bunge top-scored for Netherlands with 42. Chris Wright, who like Kerrigan struck twice, finished off the tail with a mix of short balls.

Defending such a low score, Mudassar Bukhari gave the Dutch hope with the early wickets of Varun Chopra and Alex Hales.

However, Taylor and Craig Kieswetter responded by adding 84 until the latter fell to Tom Heggelman for 38. Jos Buttler’s 16-ball 23 not out, including two sixes, aided a comfortable win.
