Maurice Chambers

Maurice Chambers was the EPP's best bowler on a tough opening day when Western Australia struck 305 for four

The England Performance Programme were made to work hard on the opening day of their tour match against a Western Australia XI at Lark Hill near Perth.

The hosts, who won the toss in this four-day game, registered 305 for four thanks principally to a century from Phil Adams plus fifties from Luke Towers and D'Arcy Short.

Paceman Maurice Chambers, who was the pick of the bowlers, struck twice for the tourists while fellow seamer Liam Plunkett and left-arm spinner Danny Briggs made the other breakthroughs.

Plunkett had Matthew Milton caught behind in the third over but Adams and Towers shared a 162-run partnership to put the hosts in control.

Briggs trapped Towers in front for 75 before Adams progressed to three figures in adding 103 for the third wicket with Short.

Chambers had Adams held by Plunkett for 116 but Short went on to 62 from 65 deliveries before becoming Chambers’ second victim - this time caught behind.

Jake Fawcett and Marcus Stoinis were unbeaten on 17 and 14 respectively at the close when Chambers had 2-35 from 17 overs, Plunkett 1-59 and Briggs 1-48.
