EPP match set for tense finale
The England Performance Programme’s match against a Western Australia XI is intriguingly poised following an impressive performance from the tourists on day three.
WA will begin the final day on 175 for eight - a lead of 223 - with the EPP hoping to push for victory following an aggressive declaration in their first innings.
Captain James Hildreth called a halt to proceedings shortly before lunch with his side on 340 for three - still 48 adrift of their hosts’ total.
James Taylor added 50 to his overnight score of 87 not out, while Yorkshire skipper Andrew Gale also recorded a century as he compiled an unbeaten 113.
The tourists then made early inroads with the ball, dismissing WA’s first four batsmen for single figures to raise hopes of a victory.
Michael Johnson and Jake Fawcett led a revival with knocks of 76 and 43 respectively, but they were both dismissed prior to the close to leave the EPP scenting a win.
Chris Woakes was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-58, while new-ball partner Jade Dernbach also starred with 2-26 from 14 overs.
